- JOSHUA BASS 1779 SOUTHAMPTON VA
In the name of God Amen, Joshua Bass of the County of Southampton being in perfect health and of disposing mind and memory Praised be to Almighty God for it but seeing the uncertainty of our being here do make this my last will and Testament as followth Disannuling and revoking all other will or wills heretofore made by me.
Item. I give and bequeath my soul to god that gave it to me Relying on the merits of my beloved Savior to have full remission of all my sins and my body to the Earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named.
Item. I give and bequeath to Thomas Bass son of Arthur Bass five pounds Cash to him and his heirs forever
Item. I give and bequeath to Burgess Bass son of Hardy Bass all the residue of my Estate to him and his heirs
I do nominate and appoint my friend Lewis Thorpe sole Executor of this my last Will and testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand & Affix my seal this 30th day of January 1779.

At a court held for County of Southampton on the 9th Day of Sept 1779 the will was proved by the oaths of Arthur Bass & Henry Bass two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
