Richard C. Bass
Funeral services for Richard C. Bass, 83, who died in a Fallon hospital on Saturday, Jan. 20, were held on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 23, in the Austin Funeral Chapel in Fallon with Rev. Fred B. Baker of the Epworth United Church officiating. Internment was in the family plot in the Fallon Cemetery. The deceased was born Jan. 12, 1890, on a ranch on Bass Hill, in Honey Lake Valley the son of Steven S. and Kate Haley Bass. The hill was named in honor of his grand-parents, Richard D. and Mary Ann Bass, who came to California by covered wagon drawn by Ox team in 1853 from their native Missouri. He was reared by his grandparents in Elysian Valley, where cattle raising and farming were the way of life. Bass was married on January 1, 1915, to Miss Stella Trussell of Susanville and in April of that year they moved to Fallon, where Mr. Bass managed farming and cattle raising for the late George Wingfield. Later he and his son, Raymond, purchased the property in the St. Clair district where the family now resides. Surviving are his widow, Stella; a son, Raymond; grandchildren, Alice Rae and Richard Raymond Bass; a sister, Mrs. Martha Hallett, Marysville; four brothers, Ralph, Janesville, Grover, Anderson, William, Davis, and Jay Manteca, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of floral tributes the family requests memorials in his name be placed to the Church County Museum or to the Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children. Relatives attending the services from Susanville were Mrs. Gladys Bass, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Trussell, Mrs. Velva Roberts, Mrs. Lila Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Fay Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. R.J. Trussell. Attending from Reno and Carson City were Mrs. Laura Jean Birdsong, Mrs. Leann Butler and Mrs. Laurel Milton.
