Gray A. Bass
Gray A. Bass SPENCER - Gray Allen Bass, 61, passed away Sunday evening, Dec. 29, 2013, at Magnolia Gardens Extended Care Community, where he had been a resident since 2008. Born March 14, 1952, in Iredell County, he was a son of the late Horace Grillis and Virginia Elizabeth Ingle Bass. Educated in Iredell County schools, Gray had last worked as a slasher for Fieldcrest Cannon Mills. A hard working man before his illness, Gray loved all of his family, especially the light of his life and baby girl, Nicole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepfather Monroe Nance; and brothers Carl Lee and Horace Junior Bass. Family members left with fond memories include his wife, Brenda Kay Smith Bass; his children, Elizabeth Nicole Bass, Brian, Julie, Jamie, Samantha and Gray Allen Bass Jr.; his two brothers, John Bass and wife Frankie, who he considered a sister, and Steve Bass; his sister, Patty Bass; and 10 grandchildren. Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 4 from 12-1 p.m. at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home in China Grove. A memorial service to remember and celebrate Gray's life will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bradley Testerman, pastor of Arrington Heights Free Will Baptist Church, Lexington. The family would like to thank the staff of Magnolia Gardens for the care and love given to Gray during his time there.
