Hoskin S. Bass
JACKSONVILLE ? Hoskin Samuel Bass, 75, left this world for a greater calling on September 3, 2000 at Onslow Memorial Hospital. God?s obvious purpose for the calling home of this truly kind and wonderful man was so that he could watch over his family and friends from a greater vantage point on high. He will truly be missed by the many family and friends who?ve been fortunate enough to cross his path in this lifetime. Funeral services will be Thursday 1 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home Jacksonville, N.C. Visitation will be Wednesday September 6, 2000 from 7-9 p.m.
Hoskin Bass was the owner/operator of Northwoods Tobacco Store in the Northwoods Shopping Center. A Veteran of World War II, he was a past Commander of both the VFW and American Legion in Edenton, N.C. He has called Jacksonville hi home for the past 45 years as a member of Brookwood Baptist Church and a retired 1SG of the U.S. Army National Guard/North Carolina National Guard. Mr. Bass was also the retired Chief, MCAS New River and MCB, Camp Lejeune. He was Past Master (1978) of Semper Fidelis Lodge No. 680 AF&AM and past member of the Scottish Rite Temple, New Bern, NC.
Mr. Bass was born March 10, 1925 in Edenton to the late Hoskin B. and Madie Bass.
He is survived by his loving wife and partner, of 54 years, Hilda S. Bass of the home; son, Richard and his wife Paula of Jackson; one very devoted and loving daughter, Yvonne Schroedr and her husband, John of Jacksonville; two extremely special grandchildren that were precious in his eyes, Jessica and Joshua.
He is also survived by three sisters, Marie Turner and Mary Elizabeth Davis of Edenton, Betty Brabble of Greensboro; two brothers, Robert and Billy Bass of Edenton; sister-in-law, Jesse Lee Lamb of Suffolk, Va; brother and sister-in-law, Margaret Cousins of Williamsburg and sister-in-law, Parker Rankins of Virginia Beach, Va.
While we can never remember to thank all the hospital staff who so ably provided for Mr. Bass we would like to offer a special heartfelt thanks to the Onslow Memorial Hospital Emergency Room staff as well as the Nursing Staff of the I.C.U. We would also like to especially thank Dr. Faidas of Coastal Oncology and Hematology, Dr. Miller of Onslow Memorial Hospital, Dr. Bianchi of Onslow Cardiology and Dr. Leung, Cardiology.
