When war was declared in 1861, Prof. Bass enlisted in the Confederate army and Mrs. Bass immediately took up the work of ministering to the needs of wounded soldiers in the military hospitals, continuing in this service throughout the war.
Taking great interest in religious work, Mrs. Bass was an active member of the First Methodist church and was prominently identified with various charitable organizations. She was a member of the Pioneer?s society and one of the best known of the older residents of Atlanta.
She is survived by one son, Hubbard G. Bass, one grandson, Lieutenant Arthur N. Bass, now with the American forces in France, and one granddaughter, Mrs. J. Edgar Morris, of Atlanta.
