Samuel McCoy Bass Jr.
MAY 2, 2012 TAMASSEE, S. C.- Samuel "Buddy" McCoy Bass Jr., husband of Mary Parks Bass, of 112 Lake Ridge Lane, died Wednesday, May 2 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at Salem First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Parksville Baptist Church Cemetery in Parksville, S. C. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, May 4 at Davenport Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Salem First Baptist Memorial Fund, PO Box 89, Salem, SC 29676 or Parksville Baptist Church Building Fund, 131 Parks-Self St., Parksville, SC 29844. The family is at the home.
A native of Columbia, S. C., Mr. Bass was the son of the late Samuel Bass Sr. and Pauline Armstrong Bass. He was a lifelong educator and served as principal of West-Oak High School and Tamassee-Salem High School. He was a member of Salem First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught "Growing in Faith" Sunday school class. Mr. Bass was a past member of the Salem Lions Club, where he wons the Melvin Jones Award. He was also a recipient of the Governor's Award for Contribution to Arts.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Bass is survived by a son, Coy Bass of Greenville, S. C.; daughter, Joy Bass Conley and her husband, Mike, of Inman, S. C.; four grandchildren, Mary Kate Conley, Rosa Conley, Kendal Conley and Cindy Conley; brother, Gordon Bass of Sonora, Calif.; and sisters, Marilyn Stevens of Waynesville, N. C. and Paulette Bass of Fayetteville, Ga.
