Roy W. Bassett (includes picture)
Roy W. Bassett, 83, of Bethlehem, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, in Westminster Village, Allentown. He and his wife, Katharina (Jungbauer) Bassett, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on July 1, 2008. Born in Easton, he was the son of the late Clark L. and Bessie (Stametz) Bassett. Roy served in the Army, from 1943-1967, retiring as master sergeant E-8. While in the Army, he studied German at the University of Maryland and was an instructor in the late 1940s. He later taught at Bucknell University in the 1950s. After retiring, he was employed by First Valley Bank as a supply manager of general services, retiring in 1986. Roy was a member of the former Mid Way Manor Moravian Church. Survivors: In addition to his beloved wife are a daughter, Lile Ann Moberly and her husband, Robert, of Lincoln, Neb., Gerhart C. Bassett and his wife, Louise, of Bethlehem; brother, Robert E. Bassett of Tyler, Texas; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 17 in the Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem, where relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home.
