Gary Clinton Bass
Mr. Bass, 80, of Charlotte died at his residence on Friday, March 6, 2009. He was born July 18, 1928, in Fairmont, NC son of the late George W. Bass, Sr. and Ina Johnson Bass.
Gary grew up in Cumberland County and was a class of 1947 graduate of Grace Creek High School in Cumberland, County. Mr. Bass was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Park Road Baptist Church. He was retired from Duke Power Company after 25 years of service and was a member of Friendship Masonic Lodge #700 AF & AM and a life member of the DAV. Mr. Bass was also a member of American Legion Post 262.
In addition to his parents Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his brother George W. Bass, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Martha S. Bass; son, Timothy Bass and Becky; daughter, Julia Payne all of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Frautman, Glen and Jack Bass all of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Shirley Norton of Wilson, NC and Cooper Davis and Pearl Hayes both of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren, Mary Carpenter and husband, Scott, John Bass and Wife, Angie, Jimmy Bass and wife, Ashley, and Caty, Clint and Hailey Bass; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Josh, Jacob, Julia and Isabella Basss and Michael, Ava and Kylie Carpenter and Jayden Campora. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Mr. Bass will be held Tuesday, March 10, at 2:00 PM at Park Road Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hankins and Whittington Monday evening March 9, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
