Samuel Bass
EUREKA - Samuel M. Bass Sr., 83, of 110 E. Clinton Drive, Eureka, formerly of Decatur and Lombard, Ill., died at 1:25 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
Samuel was born on March 17, 1922, in Wooster, Ark., to Logan and Mida Caledonia Williams Bass. He married Barbara Stanley on Oct. 8, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.
Survivors include one son, Samuel M. (Hope) Bass Jr. of Wildwood, Fla.; and two daughters, Mary Ann (Randall) Davis of Streamwood, Ill., and Joyce E. Bass of Lombard, Ill. Eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Samuel was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Samuel was a truck driver and dock worker for General Transfer in Decatur. Later, he taught high school math at Mt. Zion High School for four years and taught at Glenbard East High School for 17 years before he retired.
He was an Air Force veteran serving during WWII.
He was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and Eureka Christian Church.
He volunteered at Eureka Community Hospital, where he received the Rose Award for volunteering. He also volunteered at Maple Lawn Homes in Eureka
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005, at Eureka Christian Church. The Rev. Richard P. Richards will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at church. Cremation will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka.
