Helen Matthews Bass
ROCKY MOUNT - Helen Matthews Bass, 99, passed away Monday October 8, 2018. She was born March 1, 1919 in Nash County. She loved her family, cooking, quilting, and spending time at the family home in Hatteras Village. Helen was a lifetime member of Momeyer Baptist Church where she was a choir member, children's choir director, and Sunday school teacher for many years. Helen loved attending Senior Citizens events at Momeyer Baptist Church and spending time reminiscing about playing basketball at Spring Hope High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Thomas Bass, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, John Thomas Bass and wife Ava, Leon Kirkland Bass and wife Vicky; one brother, Gerald Matthews and wife Dorothy; one sister, Colette Nasco; grandchildren, Melissa, Kirkland, Jordan, and Leighana; Great-grandchildren, Greer, Avery, Addison, Asher, Liam, and Hayslee.
Visitation with family and friends will be Thursday, October 11, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Cornerstone Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel with Rev. Clay Leonard and Rev. Paul Arnold officiating. Burial will be at Matthews Family Cemetery of Momeyer, NC.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Momeyer Baptist Church Building fund, 4967 Momeyer Way, Nashville, NC 27856.
