William Joseph Bass
William Joseph Bass, 77, of Spring Hope, NC, passed away on September 11, 2013.
Joe was born in Nash County to the late Simon and Annie Bass. He married Shirley Wood on November 10, 1956 and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. He first worked with Tip Top Bakery and later worked side by side with his brother, R.L., at R.L. Bass Store.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing at Swan Quarter and the occasional card game to while away the hours. After retirement, he stayed close to home, enjoyed time spent with his dogs, Ginger and Missy, visiting with friends, tending his garden, cooking for his family, watching golf and Nascar on tv and talking with friends and family around the kitchen table.
Joe leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Shirley; son, Glenn Bass of Spring Hope; son, Rip Bass (Angie) of Spring Hope; grand-daughter, Heather Burnette (Gary) of Bunn; grandson, Joseph Bass, of Spring Hope; great-granddaughter, Chasity Burnette of Bunn; great grandson, Aiden Bass of Nashville; brothers, Sam Bass (Ruth) of Ontario, Canada and R.L. Bass of Nashville; sisters, Mildred Wester of Rocky Mount, Lucille Boykin of Lewisville, Frances Shearin (Larry) of Rocky Mount and Judy Turner of Rocky Mount; and a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his daughter, Brenda Bass; brothers, Hubert Parker and Simon Bass; sister, Tempie Lewis and daughter-in-law, Susan Matthews Bass.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., followed by visitation with the family at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Nashville, NC, with Reverend Norris Cook and Larry Shearin presiding.
