Mona Bass Shaw
The funeral will be Friday for Mona Ganell Bass Shaw, 81, formerly of Faith Road, who died Tuesday (May 13, 2003) at Genesis Eldercare of Salisbury after six years of declining health.
Born May 2, 1922, in Salisbury, Mrs. Shaw, a daughter of the late Lattie Benton and Willie Ethel Kluttz Bass, was a 1939 graduate of Boyden High School. She worked for Salisbury-Rowan Merchants Association. Later, she co-owned Shaw Transfer Co. and Shaw Motor Freight, retiring in 1969.
A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Martin Lutheran Sunday School Class, served on the altar guild, sang with the funeral choir, and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women.
Her husband, William Grady Shaw, died May 18, 2002.
Survivors include son William G. "Bill"Shaw Jr., Salisbury; daughters Vicki S. Hill-Parks, Salisbury, and Catherine Pamela "Pam" Basinger, Walton, Ky.; sister Hilda B. Palmer, Spencer; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 12 p.m. Friday, St. John's Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Carl Sachtleben. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.
Visitation: 11-11:45 a.m. Friday at the church library. At other times the family will be at their respective homes.
Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.
