      Mr. A. Clark Oliver Dies At Whiteville
      Former Resident of Robeson Succumbs at Ripe Age
      Funeral and Interment There

      Mr. Alexander Clark Oliver, 71, former resident of Robeson county, died at his home in Whiteville Thursday morning at 7:30 following a critical illness lasting since Sunday. He had been in declining health for 14 years.
      Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.T. Phipps, pastor of Whiteville Methodist church, of which deceased was a member, at the home Friday afternoon at 3:30, and interment was made in the town cemetery. The obsequies were attended by a very large crowd of people, many relatives and friends from a distance attending.
      Mr. Oliver, a son of the late Alfred and Charity Inman Oliver, was born and lived for many years in the Marietta community of Robeson county. Twenty-two years ago he moved to Whiteville, where he had made his home since. He was twice married, the first time to Miss Katherine Oliver, daughter of the late William G. and Civil S. Oliver, of the same community. Of this union 4 children survives: Mrs. H.E. Hoover of High Point, Mr. Benjamin A. Oliver of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. J.E. Gilmore and Mr. Claude Oliver of Whiteville. His second marriage was to Mrs. Cleopatra Bass Harrelson, who survives, along with their 2 children, Misses Crowell and Sadie Ruth Oliver. All of the children were present when the end came except Mr. Benjamin A., who arrive Thursday night.
