Benjamin Franklin Bass
Benjamin Franklin Bass, 69, lovingly known as "Benny Frank" went to his heavenly home, Wednesday, December 26, 2007, after fighting a courageous battle with colon cancer and other related illnesses. Visitation is 5-8pm today at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 10:00am Saturday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Walker Family Cemetery in Pinola.
Mr. Bass was a native of the Florence area and owned Benny Bass Cabinet Shop in Jackson for many years. He enjoyed woodworking very much and could shape beautiful things out of a piece of wood. After having to retire due to his illness, Mr. Bass loved to go fishing, go on short trips with his dog "Missy", and travel with his wife of two years. This included cruises to Mexico and Alaska. A man who loved God, he was always visiting shut-ins, friends in the hospitals and making new friends everyday. He loved his garden with his tomatoes, squash, peppers, etc.
Benny was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm Bass; wife, Virginia Walker Bass; and son, Darrell Bass.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Branning Bass; stepson, Chris Bowen and children, Christopher and Megan; stepdaughter, Melissa Bowen Jackson (Don) and children, Amber and Mandi; sister-in-law, Bettie Kennedy, all of Pearl; mother, Ethel Bass of Florence; brothers, Luther Bass (Alice) of Clinton, Paul Bass (Marvene) and Robert Bass (Diane) of Florence; along with several nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Benny was a member of Pearson Baptist Church in Pearl where he loved everybody and enjoyed fellowship with his Sunday School Class. We wish to thank all at Pearson Baptist church for the phone calls, gifts, cards, visits and prayers that were lifted up for us during this time.
The family wishes to thank Baptist Hospital doctors and nurses, Drs. Lackey, Houston, Koury and Byers for their efforts. Thanks also to Hospice Ministries and their fine team of nurses for the care given to Benny in the last few days of his life here on earth.
I don't want to forget to show my appreciation to Mike Robinson, Clay Crystal, Don Rutland and all Heavyquip employees for understanding my need to be away from the office for so long. Also, the Christmas lunch that was provided to us and the money given to help me with expenses going back and forth to the hospital was so appreciated. And last but certainly not least, the prayers that were lifted up for us.
