Mary Jo Bass Thomas
THOMAS, MARY JO BASS, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006, after a wonderful life. She was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Clarice Bass. She was born June 30, 1924, grew up in the West End section of Birmingham, met Ruble, her beloved husband of 48 years at a local dance when she was 13 and he was 16. They were secretly married three years later. She traveled with her husband on his adventures in the Air Force, was voted Mrs. Georgia Tech, supported Ruble's accomplished career as vice president of nuclear planning at Southern Company Services, volunteered in many community, school and church activities, played expertly in several bridge groups. She was loved and admired by family and friends for her graciousness, wisdom and love she shared so generously.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband.
She is survived by her children, Dr. James (Kathleen) Thomas of Macon, GA and Jan Jones of Tampa, FL; brother and sisters-in-law, Ralph (Shirley) Thomas and Ruth Franks; grandchildren, Eric (Terri) Graffeo and Jamie (Darren) Ewing, Jack and Mary Kate Thomas; great grandchildren, Maryana and Norah Rae Graffeo and Davian Kane Ewing; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2006 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, with entombment in Elmwood Cemetery. Rev. Richard B. Putman and Mrs. Thomas' nephew, Rev. Bill Bozeman officiating.
Her family extends sincere gratitude to Sharon Jones for her compassionate care of Mrs. Thomas. Deep appreciation is given to her many friends for their encouragement and prayers.
