Walter Wayne Bass
Walter Wayne Bass, 77, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born on July 22, 1938 in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late Thomas Spurgeon Bass and Grace Lucille Hopkins Bass.
In addition to his parents; he is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Richards Lorah.
Mr. Bass was currently employed by Don Hill Pontiac. He retired from Quebecor, formally Kingsport Press, after 38 years of service. Mr. Bass never met a stranger, was loved by everyone who knew him, worked hard, and was always willing to help others. He was a faithful member of Indian Springs Christian Church where he served as a greeter. Mr. Bass proudly served in the Army where he was stationed in Germany.
Left to cherish his memory: the love of his life for over 52 years, Ms. Peggy Brock Bass; daughter, Teresa Bass Halsey and husband Alan; sons, Timothy Bass and wife Christi, and Tommy Bass; grandchildren, Casey Halsey and wife Heather, Chelsea Bass, Ashley Bass, Jordan Bass, Jamie Bass, Jackson Bass; great-granddaughter, Dallas Bass.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 2, 2016 from 11:00am-1:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home in Kingsport, Tennessee. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home, with Minister Michael Beverly officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Pallbearers will be Chris Brock, Jordan Bass, Casey Halsey, Jackson Bass, David Elam, and Alan Halsey.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be sent to Indian Springs Christian Church, 5536 Kiowa Street, Kingsport, TN, 37664.
The family would like to express a very special thank you to Dr. Erica Grigg and Alice Bennett, Dr. Lucinda Miller, and Holston Valley Medical Center ICU Nursing staff.
