James B. Bass
Georgia National Director For Dixie Youth Baseball For 40 Years
James B. Bass, 87, of Fort Oglethorpe, died on Sunday, April 20, 2008, in a local hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and North Georgia. Mr. Bass was a retired employee of the Georgia Department of Labor.
He served as Georgia National Director of Dixie Youth Baseball for 40 years and was president of the Fort Oglethorpe PRA for a numerous years.
Mr. Bass also served as City Councilman of Fort Oglethorpe and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1943 to 1946. He was the voice for Lakeview Warriors Athletic Sports for over 20 years.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea E. Bass in January of 2006 and his best friend, dog ?Bingo.?
He is survived by his five children, Barry Bass, Helena, Montana, Denise Bass Gentry, Kingsport, Tn., Jay Bass, Ringgold, Brent Bass, Chattanooga, and Tracy Bass, Fort Oglethorpe; brother, Larry Bass, Nashville, Tn.; 16 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Davenport officiating. Interment will be in National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dixie Youth Baseball Scholarship Fund, Office of the Commissioner, P.O. Box 877, Marshall, Tx. 75671. Please mark for the Georgia Scholarship Fund in memory of J. B. Bass.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
