James Louis Bass III
BASS, James Louis, III, 65, of Vinton, died Friday, February 16, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Louis Bass, Jr. and Hazel Moore Bass, Knoxville, Tenn. He was a member of the Thrasher United Methodist Church and employed for 31 years at Virginia Western Community College as a Biology Professor. He was a member of the Virginia Association of Biological Educators and proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He achieved Eagle Scout rank himself as a youth and assisted with many scout achievement activities. Surviving are his wife, Jill Fisher Bass; children, David Samuel Bass, Amanda Catherine Bass, all of Vinton; father and mother-in-law, Russell and Frances Fisher, Rocky Mount; brothers-in-law, Everett Fisher, Arlington, Danny Fisher, Boones Mill; nieces Dawn Fisher, Lori Fisher, Rocky Mount; special family friends, David Wood, China Lake, Calif., Jennifer Johnson, Ashland, Grady Woodard, Arlington. Funeral services will be at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 11 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2001 with Dr. George Wesley Jones and Rev. Donald H. Seely officiating. Interment will follow in the Tilia Farm Family Cemetery, Bedford County. Flowers will be accepted or family suggests memorials may be made to the National Public Radio, WVTF 89.1 for the many hours of comfort that they provided or the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
