Oscar David Bass
Oscar Bass? Rites Planned
Oscar David Bass, 23, who was killed in an automobile accident on Iowa Jima last Thursday, will be buried in Restland Memorial Park this week.
The body is being flown from Iwo Jima. Relatives did not know Sunday when it would arrive. Bass was the son of Mrs. Eula Bass, 5014 Junius.
He was in the Coast Guard at the time of his death. Details of the accident have not been received here.,
Bass was born in Big Spring, but moved to Dallas when he was three years old. He attended Lipscomb and Woodrow Wilson schools in Dallas and was graduated from Arlington High School.
He served four years in the Navy, two and one-half years overseas on Guadalcanal, Woodlark Island and New Zealand. He was a pharmacist?s mate.
After being discharged from the Navy in 1947, he attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington for a year. Early in 1949 he joined the Coast Guard.
Surviving are his mother; frou sisters, Mrs. C. Lee Connell of Dallas; Mrs. Logan Ware of Temple, Mrs Pierrepont Harrell of Sherman; and Miss Ruth Bass of Houston; and brother, William C. Bass of Whitewright.
