James ?Jim? Nicholas Bass, born on October 19, 1957, in Elgin, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on August 14, 2026, with his wife by his side.
Jim graduated from Prentiss High School, Prentiss, Mississippi in 1975. He began working for Asplundh Tree Service in Mississippi, continuing this path as a foreman in Colorado and went on to become a General Foreman in Arkansas. In 1992, he began working for the U.S. Forest Service, finishing his career with the National Park Service in 2017, retiring as a Maintenance Supervisor for Buffalo National River, in Arkansas. During his retirement he proudly ran Bass Land Management, a forestry mulching company.
On November 28, 1980, Jim married the love of his life, Cynthia Albright, in Cody, Wyoming. Together they raised three children: James Adam, John Tyler, and Sayward Anne. In 1987, Jim devoted his life to the Lord and guided his family in strong Christian values.
In 1993, Jim and Cindy moved to Yellville, Arkansas. They had long dreamed of owning a log home in the Ozarks, and after two years of tireless work, with the help of close family and friends, he completed their beautiful four-bedroom log cabin in 1999. For the next 27 years, it became the heart of the Bass family, a place filled with holidays, laughter, family gatherings, and countless memories.
Jim was a family man. He loved hunting, fishing, woodworking and motorcycles, and sharing those experiences with his sons. He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter, sharing adventures and craft projects together. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, father-in-law, and an incredibly proud grandfather. He treasured every moment with his five grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy Nicholas Bass and Lorraine (Hanegan) Bass, and his brother, John Mark Bass. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 45 years, Cindy Bass; his children, Adam Bass; Tyler Bass and his wife, Cathryn Bass, along with their two sons, Carter and Clint; and Sadie Fisher and her husband, Zack Fisher, along with their three daughters, Esther, Eleanor, and Emma; his siblings, Kathy Batte, Chris Bass, and Lori Nunley; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
Those who knew Jim will remember a man of quiet integrity who led by example. He was dependable, humble, and always willing to lend a helping hand. He believed in keeping his word, working hard, and caring for the people around him. Though he is gone from our sight, his love, strength, and example will remain with his family forever.
Funeral services are planned for August 17, 2026, at the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church located at 2101 AR-206, in Yellville, Arkansas, 72687. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m., followed by the service beginning at 9:30. After, interment will take place at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery located by the church.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of Diamond State Cremation in Lead Hill, Arkansas.
