E.B. Bass
Ernest Brevard Bass, 75, of 2609 Shenandoah Ave., died at his home Friday.
Funeral services were held today in Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel by the Rev. E. J. Agsten and Dr. Orville Wintermute.
Surviving are one son, Dr. E. B. Bass Jr. of Charleston, S.C., two brothers, David Bass of Shelby and Willis Bass of Charlotte; three sisters, Mrs. Janie Orr of Charlotte, Mrs. Willie Phipps of West Virginia and Mrs. Banna Procter of Miami, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Ernest B. Bass
Ernest B. Bass, 75, a retired U.S. Customs officer and resident of 2609 Shenandoah Ave., died Friday at his home after several years of declining health.
He was a native of Matthews, attended the Mecklenburg County schools and was graduated from Erskine College. For a number of years he was a school principal in Iredell County. He moved to Durham in 1937 and joined the Customs office where he served until his retirement a few years ago.
He was a charter member of the Northgate Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He also taught in the Northgate Sunday School and was a member of the Men?s Bible Class. In 1959, he was selected by the Durham Merchants? Association, as ?Father of the Year.? His wife died December 27.
Survivors include a son, Dr. E.B. Bass, Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, David Bass of Shelby and Willis Bass of Charlotte; three sisters, Mrs. Janie Orr of Charlotte, Mrs. Willie Phipps of West Virginia and Mrs. Banna Procter, of Miami, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel by the Rev. E.J. Agsten and Dr. Orville Wintermute. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Oakwood cemetery, Statesville.
Pallbearers will be Wade McDonald, Tom L. Kelley, Walter Cooke, Ralph Prince, Frank T. Jones, Jr., Judd McKinney, Talmadge Chambers, and Jack Garner.
