James Sandlin Bass
James Sandlin "Drop Stitch" Bass of Wilmington, NC, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at Mariner Health Care, Wilmington.
He was born October 22, 1913, in Brunswick County, son of the late James Lee Bass and Betty Faison Bass.
Mr. Bass knew his Lord. He never met a stranger and was a true friend to everyone he met. He was a commercial fisherman and made fish nets and shrimp trawls.
Surviving are three brothers, Alton Bass and wife Flora of Castle Hayne, NC, Lee Bass and wife Cherry of Wilmington, and Norwood Bass, Sr. of Loris, SC; one sister, Catherine Cooper of Wilmington; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by four brothers, Duval, Norman, Sr., Paul, and Percy.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel by the Rev. Keith Hollar and the Rev. Michael Lewis. Interment will follow in Prospect Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour.
Pallbearers will be T.W. Lewis, Norwood Bass, Jr., Joel Bass, Billy Miller, Elmer Dance, and Rick Womack.
