He was a 1952 graduate of Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, and a long time employee of the OA News. He enjoyed playing softball and square dancing. He was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Earl Williams. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marie Mason Bass; five sons, Leh Bass, Mike Bass, David Bass (Sue), Brian Bass (Susan), and Mark Bass (Wendy); sister, Anita Niehouse; grandchildren, Michael Bass (Leigh), Jon Bass, Brian Bass, Jr., Lauren Bass Ragsdale (Beau), Eron Bass (Jennifer), Jennifer Bass Morris (Johnathan).
