      ELM CITY -- Mrs. Jean H. Bass, 69, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Nov. 22, 2010.

      A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston by the Rev. Shirley Harris.

      Jean was a native of Martin County, grew up in the Bear Grass community where she attended Bear Grass High School and was a cheerleader. She married Buck Bass in 1958, and resided in Bear Grass until 1971 when her family moved to Wilson County, where she lived, worked and raised her family until her passing.

      Jean was a loving wife, mother, and a devoted Christian. She served in various capacities from Women to Youth Ministries and also enjoyed coordinating Vacation Bible School, and most recently was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Elm City. Her hobbies were sewing and crafts.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Harrison and Marie Harrison Farmer; infant son, William Herbert Bass; brother, Vernon "Tommy" Harrison; and sisters, Faye Warren and Betty "Sister" Clark.

      She is survived by her husband of 52 years, William Henry "Buck" Bass; sons, Johnny Bass and wife, Laura, of Hertford, and Thomas Bass and wife, Brandi, of Macclesfield; daughter, Gloria Stoudemire and husband, Glenn, of Louisburg, Tammy Bass of Morganton, and Sy'Donna Bass Braswell and husband, Randy, of Lucama; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Sue Bland, Fannie Perry, Bell Harrington, Janice Gibson; and a brother, James "Pee Wee" Harrison.

      The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home and after the graveside service at the residence of Janice Gibson, 1630 Cowin Road, Bear Grass.

      Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, Piedmont Chapter, Inc., 4530 Park Road, Ste. 302 Charlotte, NC 28209.
