Gary R. Bass Sr.
SUMMERTON -- Gary Ross Bass Sr., 64, husband of Helen Robinson Bass, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at his home in Summerton.
Born May 28, 1942, in Old Hickory, Tenn., he was a son of the late Arthur Leonard and Willie Ruth Davidson Bass. He was a member of Summerton United Methodist Church, a Mason, served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a supervisor at Yuasa (Sumter Metal Products) for 11 years. He was a kind, loving husband and father.
Surviving besides his wife of Summerton are a son, Gary Bass Jr. of Durham, N.C.; daughters, Sherry Bass Rawleigh of Summerton and Rhonda Mitchum of Manning; a brother, Wallace D. Bass of Charleston; a sister, Peggy J. Owens of Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandsons, Joshua Cannon, Jonathan and Benjamin Mitchum.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard D. and Ralph C. Bass; and a sister, Ema Jean.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Summerton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Allen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the residence, 9 Mayland Drive, Summerton.
