James Lollie Bass, Jr.
On February 19, 2022, James Lollie (J. L.) Bass, Jr., loving father of three children, was called home at age 89.
J. L. was born on June 16, 1932 in Perico, Texas to James Lollie and Opal (Hoeffliger) Bass. He was raised in Dalhart, TX, where he met and married Sydney Johnson and went on to raise three children, Stewart, Brenda and Sherman. J.L. served in the United States Air Force Reserves. He also served as a Medic in the United States Army. He earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration degree and his Bachelor of Laws degree at The University of Texas.
J. L. served as Assistant District Attorney in Lubbock, TX where he worked with troubled youth and found placements for them in caring homes such as Boys Ranch in TX. He later began a long career as an attorney with Diamond Shamrock Corporation and then Maxus Energy Corporation.
J. L. was an Elder in the Presbyterian church, and more recently a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington, TX. He was an active member of their senior adult class and was very involved with visiting and ministering to other senior congregation members who live in assisted living centers in that area. He loved to travel, and particularly loved spending time in the Colorado mountains. His favorite activity was spending time with his children and grandchildren, who he adored. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and generous spirit.
J. L. was preceded in death by his father James, his mother Opal and his wife Janet. He is survived by his three children, Stewart Bass and his wife Jennifer, Brenda Wiemann and her husband Keith, and Sherman Bass and his wife Patricia, as well as ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held in Arlington. A memorial donation may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or to any charitable organization of your choice.
