Calvin Lavoid Bass
Calvin Lavoid Bass, 92, a resident of the Hillsboro community, passed away on February 17, 2022 at his home.
Calvin was born on December 22, 1929 in Peov, Mississippi. He was the third of six children born to Bruce and Creccie (Heron) Bass. He was raised in Mississippi until age 15 when his family moved to Vernonia. Calvin graduated from Vernonia High School with the Class of 1949.
Immediately after high school, Calvin married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Bennett. Together, they had a daughter, Kathleen. The two divorced in 1972. In 1950, Calvin joined the US Air Force and served his country for 3 years. He joined the workforce with Crown Zellerbach as a scaler and worked his way up to a Timber buyer for Publisher Paper, and eventually owning his own Timber business.
Calvin liked to work hard and then go home to rest well. He loved his cat Lilly and outdoor activities including; gardening, canoeing and fishing. He enjoyed good southern cooking and his Christmas tree farm.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings; Bo, Cotton, Barbra, and Hank. His youngest sister Patti lives in Sanora CA.
He is survived by his daughter; Kathleen and James Paterson IV of Hillsboro, four granchildre; Molly, James V, Brandi, Ashley, four great grandchildren; Madi, Garrett, Addy and Eleanore.
