William Leonard Bass
BEULAVILLE - William "Bill" Leonard Bass Sr., died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, in Vidant Home Health and Hospice, Greenville. He was a Korean and Vietnam veteran, having retired form the U.S. Marines in 1971, with 20 years service. During his military service he was awarded the National Defense Service Metal W/2; Vietnam Campaign Medal W/device, Good Conduct Metal W/4; Presidental Unit Citation; and Meritorious Unit Citation. He also retired form the Government Civil Service with 22 years of service with the U.S. Marine Corps and Dept. of the Navy. He loved his church and previously served as Deacon. He loved all sports especially the ECU Pirates. He was an avid bowler and especially enjoyed the comradeship with all his bowling friends. Funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 followed by visitation at Beulaville Presbyterian Church, Beulaville. Graveside service at noon Friday, Aug. 16 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Survivors include his spouse, Carol W. Bass of Beulaville; sons, Bill L. Bass Jr. of Farmville, Va., and Jon L. Bass of Winston-Salem; daughters, Sylvia Lauten of Jacksonville, Ann M. Maready and Tina M. Carter, both of Beulaville and Gina M. Elston of Wallace; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
