Mary Lou Bass

Mary Lou was born on October 5, 1935 in Dallas, Tx. She graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School. While attending school she completed 3 years of homemaking, was a drum majorette, played basketball, and was part of the band. She met the love of her life, John ?Johnny? Bass, while in school and they married in May of 1953. Mary Lou and Johnny were always on the go, you could find them anywhere from Santa Domingo to Vegas to Jamaica. They have lived in many parts of Texas including Lubbock, Brownwood, Odessa, Fort Worth, Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Red Oak. Mary Lou was a Jayceettes and a member of Eastern Star. She worked as a receptionist throughout the years and she worked for several years for Johnny at John Bass Homes doing various secretarial duties. But her favorite job of all was being a Wife, Mom and MawMaw. She enjoyed playing Golf with Johnny, attending the horse races, working in her yard, and spending time with family. Mary Lou loved to sew and sewed many things for her daughter, Linda, while she was growing up. She would take her son, John Bick, crawdad fishing and would be his biggest fan at his baseball games. She was a collector of antiques. Mary Lou was always the first to welcome everyone to their home. She enjoyed talking and meeting new people, but she was always the life of the party! She really enjoyed spending the holidays with family, especially Thanksgiving and Easter. The family Easter Egg Hunts were always ones for the books. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Preceding Mary Lou into the arms of the Lord are her parents, Defee and Pauline Atkinson; son John Bick Bass; granddaughter, Dyona Cleveland; and sister Vada Marie Roundtree. She is survived by her loving family including husband, John Bass of Red Oak; daughter, Linda and her husband, Stephen of Zephyr; granddaughter, Amary and her husband, Mitchell of Brownwood and their children, Kinsler and Hudson; sister Anne Webb of Scroggins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, February 25, 2022 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Little Bethel Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.

Mary Lou Atkins Becomes Bride of John Alfred Bass (Include photo of bride)

Hutchins, Texas, May 30 ? Miss Mary Lou Atkinson became the bride of John Alfred Bass at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Hutchins Methodist Church.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. DeFee Atkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Bass.
The Rev. Raymond Flaherty was officiant. Miss Barbara Minor and Miss Mary Loyce Minor of Wilmer presented the music.
Mr. Atkinson gave his daughter in marriage. The bride?s Chantilly lace and tulle gown had a strapless bodice and a short lace jacket with a lace peplum extending over the tulle skirt. Her waist-length veil was attached to a shell-shaped hat of matching lace scattered with pearls. She carried an arrangement of white orchids.
Mrs. Anne Potts was her sister?s maid of honor and Natalie Ann Potts was flower girl. Bridesmaids were Miss Martha Ann Dufek, Miss Doris Jeanne Bass, the bridegroom?s sister, and Mrs. Jane Kendall of Fort Worth.
Attending the bridegroom were his father as best man and Roger Brooks, Smithville; David Davis, David Adams, Kenneth Bass and James Potts.
A reception was held at the Hutchins Community House.
The house party included Miss Devony Warren, Dallas; Mrs. J.C. Stevenson of Fort Wroth, the bride?s aunt, and Shirley Sizemore.
Mr. Basset, who has been attending Arlington State College, and his bride will make their home in Lubbock.
