Ernest Bass Sr., 69
Buena Vista County Club employee
Ernest R. Bass Sr., 69, of Commercial Township, died Wednesday at South Jersey Hospital in Millville after a brief illness.
Born in Janvier, he was a Commercial Township area resident for the past 20 years.
Mr. Bass worked for Buena Vista Country Club in the maintenance department.
He also worked for American Greenhouse of Malaga and General Greenhouse Builders of Newport before retiring in 1993.
In addition, Mr. Bass worked for Millville Laundry for seven years.
Prior to that, he was employed as a truck driver for several area trucking firms.
Additionally, Mr. Bass was a member of Saint Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church in Millville.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1778 and a Fourth Degree member of Saint John Neumann Assembly No. 1749 of Millville.
Mr. Bass was a former member of the Janvier Fire Company of Franklin Township.
He enjoyed his pets, gardening and yard work.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne (Dobson), five sons, Ernest Jr. of Mays Landing, Edward od Dayton, Tenn., Harry of Williamstown, Michael of Okinawa, Japan, and Ernie C. of Commercial Township; three daughters, Linda Williamson of Clayton, Heidi Elahi of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Amy of Rock Hill, S.C.; a brother, Joe of Franklinville, 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow in Saint Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church, Millville.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight and from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. tomorrow in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad St., Millville. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Millville.
