Alton Ray Bass

Alton Ray Bass, a devoted patriarch, distinguished military veteran, and faithful member of his community, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2023, at the age of 100. He was born on January 1, 1923, in Wilmington, NC, to the late James Lee Bass and Bettie Faison Bass.
Alton proudly served in the United States Army during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His military career spanned decades, and he retired with honor, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and sacrifice. His dedication earned him the admiration and respect of his comrades, and he continued to honor his fellow servicemen as a member of American Legion Post #10.
A man of faith, Alton was an active and cherished member of Wrightsboro Baptist Church. He found immense joy in his church family, and his faith was a guiding light throughout his life.
Alton is survived by his daughter, Jane Allender, and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan L. Allender, Joseph J. Allender, and Andrew C. Allender, and his faithful friends, Alice Bullard and Henry Connor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Flora Biggs Bass, his sister Mary Katherine Cooper, and his brothers George, Percy, Duval, Norman, James, Norwood, and Lee.
A graveside service to celebrate Alton's life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery, 4124 Mt Misery Rd NE, Leland, NC 28451.
