Roy Joe Bass
SAN ANGELO Roy Joe Bass, 82, of San Angelo, passed away Friday, May 24, 2013. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in the mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Joe was born April 22, 1931, in Dickens County, Texas to Louis K. and Ida Z. Bass. While growing up, Joe worked on the family farm in McAdoo, Texas where he attended school. After graduation Joe went to work for the telephone in 1951, and worked for 37 years before his retirement in 1989. Joe married Billie Jean Duff on April 23, 1954, and they made their home in Guymon, Okla. Joe and Billie moved and lived in several small towns before moving to San Angelo in 1980, and both retired soon after. Joe loved to travel with his wife and they had plenty of time after retirement to do so. When he was home he enjoyed keeping up the yard and doing handyman chores around the house. Despite a few health problems Joe was very active; he was a Baptist and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his children, Roger Dale Bass of San Angelo, Karen Lee Alston and husband Gary of Wheeler, Texas, Jo Lynn Harrison and husband Brett of San Angelo and Sharon Kay Murphy and husband Norman of San Angelo; grandchildren Jason Bass and wife Cathy of Lawton Okla., Dee Alston of Wheeler, Texas, Terrance Harrison and Shannon and Shawna Murphy of San Angelo, Texas; and one brother, Connie Louis Bass of Post, Texas. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Taylor Harrison; sister Claudia Berry; and his half-brother, Cecil Patrick.
