Joanne Charlotte Bass Cox
Joanne Charlotte Bass Cox, 88, passed away December 4, 2023.
She was born in Aron, Florida, in Wakulla County to the parents of Carl Richard Bass, Sr., and Hadassah Stoutamire Bass. Joanne later moved to Tallahassee, Fl, with her parents. A few years after her marriage to Clayton Cox (married for 63 years), the family moved to Jacksonville, Fl, and then Joanne and Clayton returned to Smith Creek, Fl, in 1975. Since 1990, she lived in the Reston subdivision in Havana, Fl.
Survivors include her son, Edward Cox (wife Denise); daughters June Cox Richard (husband Art); and Carol Cox Langston (husband Ricky) granddaughter, Kelsey Cox, and grandson, Clayton Cox (wife Yagoda); brother Gene Bass (wife Gaile), and sister, Betty June Koval. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Kirby Bass; Woody Harrell; Charles Bass; and Carl Bass, Jr. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Alice Bass Peterson; Betty Bass Westberry, Catherine Bass; Nell Bass Rhinehart, and Olive Bass Kirkland.
She was a descendent of two pioneer families, the Hosford and Stoutamire families of Liberty County, Fl. She was a Christian, and served her Lord & Savior as a committed member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church of Quincy, Fl. From the time she was a teenager, Joan devoted her life to caring for others. She loved God's great outdoors and spent many hours creating beautiful flower beds in her yard. She will be missed and remembered by her children as the most loving, sweet, and hard-working Mother that God could give a child.
There will be a Memorial service at a later date.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch of Liveoak, Fl, Big Bend Hospice, and the American Parkinson Disease Association.
Independent Funeral Home (850-875-1529) handled arrangements.
