Richard Douglas Bass
BASS, RICHARD DOUGLAS, 77 Newberry - Richard Douglas Bass passed away January 24, 2007 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 77. Born in Elm City, North Carolina he moved to Newberry from Gainesville in 1983. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1946 and retired in 1968 after receiving numerous awards and decorations. He then went on to work at the U.S. Postal Service and retired from there in 1988. Over his lifetime he gave over 42 years in federal service. After retirement he enjoyed gardening and working on his farm. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Nipper Bass, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his son, Kelvin Bass, daughters, Brenda Bass and Pamela Bass Kuehl, and granddaughter, April (Shane) Williamson all of Newberry, FL..; sisters, Maddie Buettner of Peoria, AZ and Ida Ruth Turner of Cary, NC. Services will be held on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 1:00PM at Chapel In The Meadows, 4100 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL with Brother Russell Woodard officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2007 from 2:00-4:00PM at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville.
