Virginia Lee Hutchinson Bass
WILSON -- Virginia Lee Hutchinson Bass, 64, died Friday, January 30, 2004 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Virginia was born July 29, 1939 in Newnan, GA daughter of the late Ridley Ecta and Virginia Lee McDade Hutchinson. Her husband, John Lewis Bass, preceded her in death in 1993.
Virginia was very active in her community serving as past President of the Wilson County Democratic Women, District Director of Democratic Women of the 2nd district, Secretary of N.C. Democratic Women, appointed by Grover James B. Hunt to the N.C. Board of Corrections. She also served on the City of Wilson Citizens Advisory Committee, was a Member of the Wilson Junior Women's Club, Board of Directors of the Girl Scout Council of Coastal Carolina. She was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church where she served on the Alter Guild. She retired from the N.C. Division of Forest Resources in June of 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at the St. Timothy's Episcopal Church with Rev. Chris Hardman officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday night at the church and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Timothy's Episcopal Church at 202 N. Goldsboro St., Wilson, NC 27893 or the charity of one's choice.
She is survived by daughter, Sarah Frances Pikett and husband, Steven Alan Pikett of Scoulton, Norfolk England; son, Bryan Lewis Bass and wife, Kristine Lyn Bass of Cary; daughter, Leigh Bass Kokenes and husband, Stephen Constantine Kokenes of Long Beach, CA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jack Lewis Pikett, John Lewis Bass, Abigail Violet Pikett, and Corinne Celeste Kokenes; and brother, Ridley Ecta Hutchinson, III of Beaverton, Oregon.
Arrangements are by Thomas-Yelverton at Evergreen Memorial Park Funerals and Cremations, 2704 Nash Street N., Wilson.
