Funeral services for George Richard Bass, 64, of Nacogdoches will be held on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Laird Funeral Home at 10:00 AM with Bro. Sonny Scaborough officiating. Burial will follow at Holly Grove Cemetery. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, in Nacogdoches. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Laird Funeral Home from 5-7 PM. George was born on March 29, 1951, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Vertis Bobby Bass and Agnes Catherine Nelson. He attended Central Heights School and later went on to attend Lufkin State School. George was known for loving shoes "shiny shoes". He would greet his friends and family as "did you bring me any shoes?" He had a total of twelve pairs of shoes. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys football team and listening to country music for example, George Jones, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. George is survived his brothers, Vertis Lynn Bass and his wife, Angela, Homer Bass, and Robert Doles and his wife, Sheryl; sisters, Wendy Watson and her husband, Kevin, Theresa Turner and her husband, Jimmy, Kathryn Smith and her husband, Albert, Naomi Chancellor and her husband, Albert, and Alysa Cummins and her husband, Danny; step-mother, Sarah Bass, along with numerous friends and family that love him and will miss him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vertis Bobby Bass and Agnes Catherine Nelson; brother, Billy Bass; brother, Dennis Doles; sister, Mollie Heath. Pallbearers will be Lynn Bass, Keith Bass, Ricky Butcher, Kevin Watson, Brian Chancellor, Homer Bass, Albert Smith, and Addis McCarver.
