      Virginia White Bass

      Flora, MS: Virginia White Bass, 82, formerly of Greenwood, MS, died Saturday August 26, 2013 at her home in Flora. A memorial service will be 11 A. M. Monday August 26, 2013 at St. John's United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Ray Stonestreet officiating. Interment is in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday evening from 6-8 P. M. at the church.

      Virginia was born in Greenville South Carolina to Andrew and Clara White and moved to Winnfield, LA as a child. She was a graduate of Winnfield High School and N.W. Louisiana State University. She also attended LSU where she played clarinet in the band.

      A longtime resident of Greenwood, she was a charter member of the St. John's United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was director of the Methodist Youth Fellowship for 25 years. She was a life member of the United Methodist Women and served as president for two years. She was state secretary for the United Methodist Church of MS. Virginia was statewide officer for the Women's Club and served on the boards of the Salvation Army and Beacon Harbor. Playing in the Greenwood Community Band was one of her favorite activities.

      Virginia is preceded in death by her parents and her son Sammy Bass.

      Mrs. Bass is survived by her husband of 63 years, Sam Scott Bass, three daughters, Cathey Bass Russell and her husband David of Flora, MS, Missy Bass Pillow and her husband Watson of Schlater, MS, Scottie Bass Peeples and her husband Mark of Vaiden, MS, a brother A. B. White and his wife Shirley of Winnfield, LA, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

      Pallbearers are Jim Bass, Aaron Bass, Casey Bass, Hank Lamb, Chuck Lamb, Tim Lamb, Don Barger, David Barger and Mark Barger.

      Memorial May be made to St. John's United Methodist Church of the Salvation Army.
