      Samuel Scott Bass

      Samuel Scott Bass, 86, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home in Flora. Visitation will be at St. John's United Methodist Church on Monday, February 3 from 5p.m. to -7p.m. Burial will be at Odd Fellow's Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4 and there will be a Celebration of Life at St. John's United Methodist Church at 11:00 on February 4 (which would be Mr. Bass and his wife's 64th wedding anniversary).

      Mr. Bass was born December 12, 1927 to William Samuel Bass and Tommie Brymer Bass. He was a World War II vet, played baseball and boxed at UL, was a member of the Greenwood Country Club, and he served as Street and Sanitation Commissioner of Greenwood for 8 years.

      Mr. Bass founded Bass Petroleum; he was a cofounder of Greenwood Asphalt Company and Short Street Realty. He was an avid golfer, lifelong member and Administrative Board Member of St. John's United Methodist Church, and a Community Food Pantry Volunteer. He was nicknamed "The Peanut Butter Man", and he was a "Grandaddy" to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Lee Bass, his son William Samuel Bass, his brother William Thomas Bass, his sister Mary Margie Kirk and his parents.

      He is survived by his daughters Cathey Russell and her husband David of Flora, MS; Missy Pillow and her husband Watson of Schlater, MS; Scottie Peeples and her husband Mark of Vaiden, MS; his grandchildren Liza Booth, Wil Webb, Claire Green, Grace Jefcoat, Missy Russell, David Russell, Stephen Russell; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

      Memorial donations to St. John's United Methodist Church or Greenwood's Community Food Pantry (PO Box 372, Greenwood, MS, 38935).
