He was born March 25, 1926 in Nash County, son of the late William Lewis and Lessie Manning Bass. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he received a purple heart. He was also a member of the DAV, the American Legion Post 91, the Momeyer Baptist Church, a charter member of the Momeyer Rescue Squad and a member of the Momeyer Ruritan Club. Surviving: wife, Ramona Bass; daughter and son-in-law, Sydney and Cliff Joyner of Nashville; grandchildren, Abbie and Corrie Joyner; brothers, Clarence Bass and Glenn Bass, both of Nashville; sisters, Rachel Baines of Nashville, Thelma Beard of Ahoskie. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Chapel of Nashville with the Rev. Hardwick Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the chapel in Nashville. Memorials may be made to the Momeyer Baptist Church and the Momeyer Rescue Squad.
