Martha E. Fennell Barker
On the early morning of September 26, 1955 the death angel visited the home of Mrs. Nellie Clements and bore away the gentle spirit of her mother, Mrs. Martha E. Barker. She was 78 years and 11 months old. She had been in failing health for about 7 years, and the last two years she was bed-fast. Martha E. Fennell was the daughter of the late Charley and Permina Fennell, born in Lafayette County, FL. In early womanhood, she was married to Robert Bass, and to them were born two daughters. The preceded her in death in early age. On November 11, 1900, she was married to William D. Barker, and to the happy union 8 children were born. Five preceded her in death. In the last few years of her life was spent in Frostproof. She leaves behind her devoted husband. W. D. Barker; three daughters, Mrs. Ida McLeod, of Perry; Mrs. Pennie Pickels, of Madison; Mrs. Nellie Clements, of Frostproof; one brother, Hugh Fennell, of Limona [Brandon], 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the Frostproof Baptist Church September 27th with interment in Silver Lake Cemetery.
