Sydney ?Carol? Bass Brooks
MOMEYER - Sydney "Carol" Bass Brooks, 48, died Saturday, January 18, 2003 at Duke Medical Center after a long and courageous fight with breast cancer. Born on August 4, 1954 in Nash County, she was the daughter of Eloise Leonard Bass and the late Larry Dozier Bass of Momeyer.
Carol is survived by her husband, Frederick F. Brooks Jr., and daughters, Kelly Brown of Raleigh and Mary Eloise Brooks of Momeyer; brother Leon Bass of Momeyer; sisters, Brenda B. Pace and husband, Ronnie of Momeyer, and Ellen B. Stephenson and husband, Tom of Wake Forest; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred F. Brooks, Sr. and Emma Brooks of Hampstead; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Johnson and husband, Harris of Kinston, and Elizabeth B. Little and husband, Mark of Charlotte; nephews and nieces, Patrick and Daniel Pace of Momeyer, Will and Hunter Stephenson of Wake Forest, Whit and Brook Johnson of Kinston, and Emma and Mark Little of Charlotte.
She graduated from Southern Nash Senior High School in 1972 and Campbell University in 1975 with a degree in elementary education. She was with the Nash-Rocky Mount School System since 1976 and was nominated as "Teacher of the Year" at Spring Hope Elementary School in 1997. She was an active member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.
Carol was a member of Momeyer Baptist Church and served in numerous capacities to lead the children there.
The family will receive friends Monday, January 20, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Chapel, Nashville. A celebration of Carol's life will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Momeyer Baptist Church, Momeyer, N.C. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Carol Bass Brooks Memorial Fund, RBC Centura Bank, 109 S. Barnes St., Nashville, NC 27856. Funds acquired through this memorial will be utilized to support cancer research.
