Susanne Warner Bass
Nashville, Tn. Susanne Warner Bass ? May 14, 2000. Survived by her husband, James O. Bass, sons, James O. (Elizabeth) Bass Jr., Edwin Warner (Madge) Bass and Francis M. (Allison) Bass; daughter Susan Bass (Jay S.) Bowen all of Nashville; grandchildren, Susanne Bass (David) Young, James O. (Candy) Bass III, Edwin Warner Bass Jr., Elizabeth Bass (Howard) Lamar, John Gregory Bass, Margaret Ragland Bass, Francis M. Bass III, Caroline Carter Bass, J. Scott Bowen Jr. all of Nashville, Nancy Bass (Greg) Whittaker of Atlanta, GA, and James N. Bowen II of New York City, N.Y.; eight great grandchildren. She was born in Nashville in 1910, the youngest daughter of the late Edwin Warner and Susan Richardson Warner. She is also survived by her sister, Emily Warner Dean of Wilmington, Delaware; and by nieces, Milbrey Waller Andrews and Ann Bass Phillips Harmer both of Nashville and Milbrey Dean Crompton of Wilmington, Delaware; and by a nephew, Edwin Warner Dean of Boulder, Colorado. Mrs. Bass attended the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York. In 1937, she married James O. Bass, who as practiced law in Nashville since 1934 with Bass, Berry & Sims. She was a Member of First Presbyterian Church, Junior League of Nashville, Garden Club of Nashville, Colonial Dames of America and was a supporter of other local charities. She was particularly interested throughout her life in the Warner Parks. Edwin Warner Park was named in honor of her father, who served for many years as Chairman of the City?s Parks Board, was instrumental in the planning of the Warner Parks, and provided funds for the acquisition of Edwin Warner Park. The new Susanne Warner Bass Learning Center in Edwin Warner Park has been named in Mrs. Bass?s honor in appreciation of her support of the construction of that Learning Center. Services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2000 at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road. Visitation at the Church from 10 a.m. until the service. Interment will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Warner Parks, 50 Vaughn Road, Nashville, TN 37221 or other charity of choice.
