      Merlin E. Bass

      OXFORD - Merlin E. Bass, 83, of 4534 Highway 15 South, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at his home. A native of Sampson County, he was the son of the late Iverson and Julie Frances Bass.

      He was a member of Living Stone Worship Center Church of God and a retired farmer.

      Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev.

      Milton Abbott. Burial will be in Granville Memorial Park.

      Surviving are his wife, Katherine Dennis Bass of the home; two daughters, Betty Jean B. Hodges and Carolyn Bass, both of Oxford; a son, Richard Bass of Oxford; five sisters, Mary Carpenter and Jean Finch, both of Creedmoor, Joyce Miller of Rougemont, Brenda Rogerson of Roxboro and Delores Medley of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, Johnnie Bass of Creedmoor; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

      Three sisters, Elizabeth Boyd, Bertha Overton and Darlene Oakley, and a brother, Bill Bass, preceded him in death.

      Visitation will be from 78:30 p.m. today at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

      Arrangements are by Eakes Funeral Home of Oxford.
