Gary Lee Bass
Gary Lee Bass, 72, of Bokoshe was called home to join the love of his life, Jane, at the feet of Jesus on Sunday, June 4, 2017.
He was born to Leo and Jean Bass on Nov. 1, 1944, in Poteau. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane; his parents; and grandparents, Walter and Cleo Durant. On June 30, 2017, Gary and Jane would have been celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, but now the celebration was early. Gary proudly served his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Johnson Controls in Poteau after many years of service.
He had a lifetime of memories full of laughter and pranks from J.C. On Nov. 23, 1975, Gary became a Blood Bought and Born Again Christian. He was a loving and devoted husband, Daddy, Pawpaw and Papaw. He loved to watch the Dallas Cowboys and OU Sooners play football. He was an avid gun and knife collector.
He is survived by three daughters, Angie Burgess and husband Bert of Bokoshe, Sue Ann Bright of Springdale, Ark., and Amy Stafford and husband Richard of Poteau; his four-legged best friend, Mollie; nine grandchildren, Colby, Kristy, Caleb, Caitlin, Conner, LeighAnn, Jacklyn, Faith and Dawson; three great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Derek and KyLee; sister, Joyce Davis of Poteau; brothers, Roy Perkins, Larry Bass and Leonard Davis all of Poteau; lifelong friend and brother, Bob Gotcher of Texas; as well as a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Pallbearers will be Colby Oliver, Caleb Oliver, Conner Oliver, Richard Stafford, Bert Burgess, Chad Davis and Dawson Watts.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Trinity Baptist Church, Poteau, with Pastor Leroy Billy officiating. Burial will be in Vaughn Cemetery, Gilmore. You may offer condolences to the family Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Grace Manor Funeral Home.
