Son of patrolman was stabbed, beaten
A 30-year-old Greensboro man was stabbed and beaten to death, according to Greensboro police, who were continuing their investigation Friday into the murder Thursday.
Michael Anthony (Tony) Bass, 30, of 5700 Spanish Oak Drive was tied up, stabbed several times and beaten, said Dr. John Butts of the State Medical Examiner?s office in Chapel Hill. He was the son of a Greensboro police officer.
There was no sign of forced entry to Bass? home, according to Capt. B.L. Thomas of the police department?s criminal investigations division. The single-story wooden home is in the Thicket development, a middle-class neighborhood off West Wendover Avenue.
Thomas declined to give other details or speculate on a motive. No arrest had been made late Friday.
?But based on what we know, we don?t believe at this point that this is a matter for neighborhood alarm,? Thomas said.
Bass was the son of Marlen and Carrie Bass of Greensboro. Marlen Bass is a city patrolman. But Thomas said that there are no indications that Bass? death was related to his father?s work for the police department.
