Marlen L. Bass Jr.
GREENSBORO - Marlen L. Bass, Jr., 84, of Greensboro, went home to his Lord on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
He was police officer with the Greensboro Police Department for 40 years; served in the Navy during World War II; a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church where he was deacon emeritus; and a Mason in Revolution Lodge 552 of Greensboro. He was a avid golfer, and one who never met a stranger as he was a friend to everybody. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlen Lee Bass, Sr. and Marie Miller Bass; his son, Tony Bass; his brother, Clyde Bass; and his sister, Dorothy Layton.
His immediate survivors are his wife of 57 years, Carrie Jones Bass of the home; daughter, Karen Gordon and her husband, Richard of High Point; grandsons, Jonathan and David Gordon of High Point; and his sister, Jean Hall and her husband, Joel of Greensboro.
Friends may visit from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Rocky Knoll Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
