      SCOTLAND NECK ? Herbert C. Bass, 79, died Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted at Trinity Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Thursday by the Rev. J.E. Sturtevant, rector. Burial will follow in the Lawrence Cemetery, with masonic rites. He is survived by his wife, the former Susie Knight; two daughters, Mrs. E. G. Whitson of Alexandria, Va., Virginia Bass of the home; five sons, Charlie of Greenville, Brooks of Newport News, Va., Dr. Beaty Bass of Rutherfordton, Cheshire of West Lafayette, Ind., Herbert of the home; one sister; Annie Bass of Scotland Neck; 10 grandchildren. Mr. Bass was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies and Sudan Temple of the Shine at New Bern and a member of the Episcopal Church.
