Willis A. Bass, Merry Hill Resident
Merry Hill resident Willis Augustus Bass, 81, of 2228 US 17 North, died Monday, July 27, 2009 in University Health Systems Inpatient Hospice in Greenville. Mr. Bass was born in Chowan County and was the son of the late Carey Augustus and Martha Harrell Bass. A retired farmer, he was a member and deacon at Merry Hill Baptist Church and was also a member of the Mill Landing Hunting Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nellie Mae Taylor; and brothers, Lester, Rodney, and Wilbur Ray Bass. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Geraldine Bunch Bass; five daughters, Linda B. Hoggard and husband Jack, of Windsor, Kathy B. Perry and husband, Buck, of Colerain, Joan B. Hoggard and husband, Johnny, of Merry Hill, and Lora B. Jones and husband Allen and Gay B. Belch and husband, Pete, all of Edenton; three sons, Willis Michael Bass and wife, Teresa, and Sherwood Bass and wife, Patty, all of Merry Hill and Danny Bass and wife, Chrissy, of Kenya; two sisters, Christine Lamb of Tyner and Ima Jean Lane of Hertford; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. in Merry Hill Baptist Church by the Revs. Marcus Daly and Michael Bryant. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery with Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
