  Notes	The Chowan Herald, North Carolina, January 26, 1961 James L. Bass Dies After Long Illness James L. Bass, 82, died at the home of his son, Quinton Bass, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock after an illness of two years. A native of Chowan County, he was the son of the late Quinton and Mary Nixon Bass and was a retired farmer. Surviving are three sons, Quinton Bass, Johnnie Bass and Reuben Bass, all of Edenton; two daughters Mrs. Erie Jones of Edenton and Mrs. Wince White of Hobbsville; two brothers K. B. Bass of Courtland, Va., and J. T. Bass of Edenton; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The pastor, the Rev. Gordon Shaw, officiated and burial was in the Smith Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Bass, Thomas C. Bass, Carroll Smith, Elmer Overton, Mayo Laurence, and W. L. Whitehead.
