BASS, J. LOREAINE, physician, was born February 4, 1864, in Marion County SC; son of Dr. Thomas R. and Mary R. (Carter) Bass, the former a native and life long resident of Marion County SC, who practiced his profession in this county for fifty years, a graduate of of the University of South Carolina, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and the Medical College of South Carolina at Charleston, and who represented his county in the state legislature for two terms; grandson of Joseph Bass, a native of England who emigrated to America, locating in South Carolina and there married. Dr. Bass was educated in the schools of his native county; graduated in 1883 from the University of South Carolina; attended the South Carolina medical college for one year; received the degree of M.D. from the Medical college of Louisville, Ky. in 1887; took post graduate courses at the Louisville medical college and Bellevue hospital, New York City. He began the practice of his profession with his father, removing at the end of a year to Brewton where he has since remained. Married: in Jun, 1887, to Emma Lucas, of Charleston, S.C. Residence: Brewton.

Deserted His Wife
A Former Charleston Lady Deserted By Her Husband In Kentucky
The following correspondence from Valdosta, Georgia, to the Macon Telegraph, relative to the escapade of Dr. J.L. Bass, whose wife is a Charleston lady, will be read with interest:
??Considerable sensation has been created here by a report in the Kentucky papers of the escapades of Dr. J.L. Bass, formerly of Valdosta. The reports says that Dr. Bass has deserted his wife and skipped out to parts unknown with another woman.
??His brother, who is a prominent business man of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, had called a meeting of the doctor??s creditors and it is said that he will pay the accounts left unpaid by the fugitive husband. Dr. Bass came to this city from South Carolina several years ago, and practiced his profession here for several years. He was a partner with Dr. T.M. Talbot and is said to have been a very competent man in his profession.
??His wife was a member of a prominent Charleston family and was an excellent woman. She had many friends here, who admired her for her graces of mind and character, and who sympathize deeply with her in the humiliating position in which she has been placed by an unfaithful husband.?

Dr. James Lorraine Bass
BASS ? Died at Lake City, S.C., January 14, 1910, Dr. James Lorraine Bass, after an illness of more than two months.
Dr. Bass was born February 14, 1864. He was a graduate of Charleston Medical College, Louisville Medical College, and had taken post-graduate courses in New York and Louisville.
He leaves a wife, who was Miss Emmie Lucas, of Charles, S.C.
